Cancellation policy
Nook Box Subscription Policy
Last updated: 28 August 2026
This Subscription Policy applies to recurring subscriptions and other recurring purchase options offered by Nook Box.
By purchasing a subscription, you agree to the recurring billing arrangements and terms outlined below.
Nothing in this policy excludes, restricts or modifies any rights or remedies you may have under the Australian Consumer Law.
1. How Nook Box Subscriptions Work
Nook Box offers recurring subscription options, including monthly and bi-monthly subscriptions, and may introduce additional subscription products or frequencies from time to time.
Unless expressly stated otherwise at the time of purchase, our subscriptions have no minimum commitment or lock-in period.
Your subscription will automatically continue at your selected frequency until you cancel it.
Each successful renewal secures your upcoming Nook Box and allows us to confirm quantities with our authors, publishers, suppliers and makers.
2. Subscription Frequency
Your subscription will renew according to the frequency selected when you subscribe.
A monthly subscription renews each month.
A bi-monthly subscription renews every two months according to its applicable subscription cycle.
Any other recurring purchase option will renew at the frequency displayed at the time of purchase.
Your subscription frequency can be viewed through your subscription account.
3. Monthly Box Timeline
Our usual subscription timeline is:
-
Around the 8th: The upcoming featured book is revealed by email and on Nook Box social media.
-
18th: Recommended deadline to skip or cancel before renewal.
-
20th: Applicable subscriptions automatically renew.
-
26th: Final day to request a change-of-mind refund of a successful renewal and the usual cut-off for adding products to your upcoming box.
-
6th of the shipping month: Final deadline for unresolved failed subscription payments.
-
By the 10th: Subscription boxes are generally dispatched, provided payment has been successfully received and stock is available.
Some dates may vary due to weekends, public holidays, production schedules, publisher or supplier delays and other circumstances.
If a significant change affects an upcoming box, we will communicate this to affected subscribers where reasonably possible.
4. Featured Book Reveal
We generally reveal the featured book for the upcoming box around the 8th of the month before it ships.
Reveals are generally communicated by email and through Nook Box social media.
This gives subscribers an opportunity to decide whether the upcoming book is right for them before their subscription renews.
5. Content & Trigger Information
Nook Box features romance books intended for adult readers. Books may contain mature themes, explicit sexual content, profanity or potentially sensitive subject matter.
Where information is reasonably available to us, we may provide content information or trigger warnings as part of the monthly reveal or associated communications.
Content information is provided as a guide and may not identify every theme, scene or potential trigger contained in a book.
We encourage subscribers to review the featured book and any available content information before deciding whether to receive the upcoming box.
If an upcoming book isn't right for you, you can skip the applicable box before renewal.
6. Age Requirement
Nook Box subscriptions are intended for customers aged 18 years and over.
By purchasing a subscription, you confirm that you are at least 18 years old.
7. Subscription Renewals
Applicable subscriptions automatically renew on the 20th of their scheduled renewal month using the payment method associated with the subscription.
By maintaining an active subscription, you authorise Nook Box and its payment providers to automatically charge your selected payment method according to your subscription frequency until you cancel.
Your recurring charge may include your subscription price, applicable shipping and any other recurring charges disclosed when you subscribe.
8. Skipping a Box
We understand that not every book will be for every reader.
Subscribers can currently skip eligible upcoming boxes without cancelling their subscription.
To avoid being charged for an upcoming box, your skip should be completed through your subscription account by the 18th of the applicable renewal month.
When you skip:
- You will not be charged for that subscription box;
- You will not receive that box; and
- Your subscription remains active.
Nook Box currently allows unlimited eligible skips. We may change the availability or conditions of skipping in the future as our subscription program develops.
If we materially change the skipping options available to existing subscribers, we will provide reasonable advance notice before the change takes effect.
9. Cancelling Your Subscription
You may cancel your subscription at any time with no cancellation fee.
Subscriptions can be cancelled directly through your Nook Box subscription account.
To prevent your next scheduled renewal, cancellation should be completed before your payment is processed on the 20th of the applicable renewal month.
Cancelling your subscription stops future renewals. It does not automatically cancel an order that has already been successfully processed.
If you cancel after an order has been processed and after the applicable change-of-mind refund period has ended, you will still receive the already-paid box and your cancellation will apply to future renewals.
10. Change-of-Mind Grace Period After Renewal
If your subscription successfully renews on the 20th and you no longer want the upcoming box, Nook Box provides a six-day change-of-mind grace period.
You may request cancellation and a refund of that renewal by contacting hello@nookbox.com.au no later than 11:59pm Victorian time on the 26th of that month.
If your eligible request is received within this grace period, we will cancel and refund that subscription order.
After the 26th, quantities are committed to our production and fulfilment cycle and we do not offer change-of-mind refunds for that month's subscription order.
You can still cancel your ongoing subscription at any time to prevent future renewals.
This grace period relates only to change-of-mind cancellations and does not affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
11. Failed Payments
If your scheduled renewal payment is unsuccessful, our subscription or payment provider may automatically retry the payment.
Our standard failed-payment process allows for three payment attempts, generally spaced approximately three days apart.
We may also contact you to let you know that payment has failed and provide an opportunity to update your payment details.
Final Payment Deadline
Payment for the upcoming box must be successfully resolved by 11:59pm Victorian time on the 6th of the applicable shipping month.
This deadline allows us to finalise our monthly fulfilment and dispatch process.
If payment remains unsuccessful after this deadline:
- You will not receive that month's box;
- You will not be charged for a box that we do not supply;
- Nook Box is not required to continue reserving that month's products after the deadline; and
- Your subscription will remain active and will automatically continue to its next scheduled renewal unless you cancel it.
Missing a box due to an unresolved payment does not cancel your ongoing subscription.
12. Stock During Failed Payments
Subscribers with an unresolved payment will retain priority for their applicable monthly box while we attempt to resolve payment and until the final payment deadline on the 6th of the shipping month.
If your payment is successfully resolved before this deadline, we will fulfil your subscription box as normal, subject to circumstances outside our reasonable control.
After the deadline, we may release reserved stock and cannot guarantee that the missed box will remain available.
If stock remains after the subscription cycle has closed, a missed box may be made available for separate purchase.
13. Late Payment Processing
If a payment is unexpectedly processed after the failed-payment deadline and we can still supply your box, we may fulfil the applicable subscription order.
If we cannot supply the box because stock has been released or is unavailable, we will not retain payment for goods we cannot supply and will provide an appropriate refund or other remedy.
14. Keeping Your Payment Details Current
You are responsible for keeping the payment method associated with your subscription current.
Payment details can be updated through your subscription account where available.
An expired, declined or otherwise unsuccessful payment may result in you missing the applicable box if payment is not successfully resolved by the deadline described above.
15. Add to Box Purchases
Active subscribers may be able to purchase eligible products from the Nook Box shop and have them included with an upcoming subscription shipment using our Add to Box option.
The usual Add to Box cut-off is the 26th of the month.
Add to Box products are separate purchases from your subscription and are subject to our Returns & Refunds Policy.
If you skip your upcoming subscription box after purchasing an Add to Box item, the item will generally be held and included with your next applicable subscription shipment rather than being shipped separately.
If you completely cancel your subscription while you have paid Add to Box items waiting to be shipped, Nook Box will contact you and offer you the choice to:
- Have the Add to Box items shipped separately after paying the applicable standalone shipping cost; or
- Receive a refund for the unshipped Add to Box items.
If we are unable to contact you or receive your choice within a reasonable period, we may refund the unshipped Add to Box items to the original payment method.
Nothing in this section limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.
16. Subscription Products Are Separate
Different Nook Box subscription products and frequencies are treated as separate subscription options.
If you want to change to a different subscription product or frequency, you must cancel your existing subscription and subscribe to the new option.
For example, moving from a monthly subscription to a bi-monthly subscription requires a new subscription.
The new subscription will be subject to the:
- Current subscription price;
- Current shipping charges;
- Current inclusions;
- Availability; and
- Terms applicable at the time you resubscribe.
Any previous, introductory, promotional or grandfathered pricing associated with your old subscription will not automatically transfer to your new subscription.
17. Subscription Pricing
Your recurring subscription price is the price applicable to your subscription at the time you subscribe, subject to any promotional terms.
Some existing subscribers may continue on previous or grandfathered pricing for a period determined by Nook Box.
Grandfathered or existing subscription pricing is not guaranteed permanently.
If we change the recurring subscription price for an existing subscriber, we will provide reasonable advance notice before the new price applies.
You may cancel your subscription before the affected renewal if you do not wish to continue at the new price.
18. Shipping Charges
Subscription pricing and shipping charges are separate unless expressly stated otherwise.
Existing or grandfathered subscription pricing does not guarantee that your shipping rate will remain unchanged.
Shipping charges may change over time due to carrier pricing, destination, parcel size, service changes or other shipping costs.
Where a change to recurring shipping charges affects an existing subscription, we will provide reasonable advance notice before the new charge applies.
Current shipping arrangements are further explained in our Shipping Policy.
19. Discounts & Promotional Offers
Discounts, introductory pricing, free gifts and other promotional offers may be subject to additional eligibility requirements and terms communicated with the offer.
Unless otherwise stated, promotional pricing applies only for the period or number of renewals specified.
Once a promotional period ends, the subscription will continue at the applicable standard recurring price unless cancelled.
New-subscriber offers are intended for genuinely new subscriptions and customers who meet the eligibility requirements of the applicable promotion.
Nook Box may refuse or cancel the use of a promotion where we reasonably believe a customer is deliberately creating multiple accounts, repeatedly cancelling and resubscribing, or otherwise attempting to circumvent promotional eligibility requirements.
This does not affect legitimate subscription cancellations or your rights under Australian Consumer Law.
20. Subscription Inclusions
The inclusions associated with each subscription option are described on the applicable product page.
Books, products, designs, themes, brands and other inclusions will vary between boxes.
Where necessary due to unexpected supplier, production or availability issues, we may substitute a product with an alternative of comparable quality or value.
21. Changes to the Subscription Program
Nook Box may evolve its subscription offering over time.
This may include changes to:
- The number or type of items included;
- Subscription formats;
- Product inclusions;
- Packaging;
- Subscription frequency;
- Pricing;
- Shipping arrangements;
- Skip functionality; or
- Other features of the subscription.
Where a material change affects an existing subscription, we will provide reasonable advance notice before the change takes effect.
Unless otherwise communicated, existing subscriptions will automatically transition to the updated subscription format from the stated effective date.
If you do not wish to continue following a material change, you may skip an eligible box or cancel your subscription before the affected renewal.
22. Shipping & Dispatch
Provided payment has been successfully received and the applicable stock is available, subscription boxes are generally dispatched by the 10th of the shipping month and may be dispatched earlier.
Occasionally, publisher, supplier, production, freight or other unexpected delays may affect this timeframe.
Where we become aware of a significant delay affecting a monthly subscription box, we will communicate this to affected subscribers where reasonably possible.
Further information is available in our Shipping Policy.
23. International Subscribers & Time Zones
The subscription dates and deadlines in this policy apply to all subscribers worldwide.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, dates and cut-off times are based on the local time in Victoria, Australia (AEST or AEDT, as applicable).
International subscribers are responsible for considering the applicable time difference when managing skips, cancellations, payments and other subscription changes.
24. Chargebacks & Payment Disputes
If you do not recognise a Nook Box subscription charge or believe a payment has been processed incorrectly, please contact us at hello@nookbox.com.au so we can investigate the issue.
Where a chargeback or payment dispute is initiated, we may provide relevant transaction, subscription, communication and fulfilment information to the applicable bank or payment provider as part of the dispute process.
Where a chargeback results in payment for an order being reversed, we may pause fulfilment of that order or the associated subscription while the dispute is investigated.
We may suspend or cancel a subscription where there is evidence of fraudulent payment activity or repeated misuse of the chargeback process.
Nothing in this section prevents you from legitimately disputing an unauthorised or incorrect transaction or exercising any rights available to you under applicable law.
25. Nook Box Cancelling or Suspending a Subscription
Nook Box may cancel or suspend a subscription in limited circumstances, including where:
- Repeated payment attempts are unsuccessful;
- Fraudulent or unauthorised activity is reasonably suspected;
- A promotion or subscription is being deliberately misused;
- Continuing the subscription would breach applicable law; or
- Nook Box discontinues the relevant subscription service.
Where appropriate, we will provide reasonable notice.
If we cancel an order that has already been paid for and do not supply the applicable goods, we will provide an appropriate refund.
26. Australian Consumer Law
Nothing in this Subscription Policy excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantee, right or remedy available under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted or modified.
Issues involving faulty, damaged, missing or incorrectly supplied products are handled in accordance with our Returns & Refunds Policy and applicable consumer law.
